  I had major surgery last month and was in hospital for 2 nights, my adult Daughter took me into the hospital and waited in the vicinity of the hospital, we were told she would get a phone call once I was in recovery as my surgery would take 2 hours, she didn't receive a phone call! It took her quite some time to locate me after having to ask several nurses. The next evening we overheard a man telling staff he was upset that he couldn't locate his wife and did not know if she were alive or dead. Also a nurse offered to change my sheets while I went to the bathroom, this didn't happen, in fact the sheets sat on top of a set of drawers for a whole day and night and were still there when I was discharged. I was discharged without instructions on caring for my wounds and no other care information was given to me, instead I kept being told to go see my GP for instructions and wound care! While I understand the need to see a GP for wound care I cannot understand why I was not given any care instructions e.g. keep dressings dry, don't lift anything over 5kg.
  I could write an essay on my experience including the nurse who went to take my temperature, it was high, so she said "I need a different thermometer, I will be back in a minute" only to return 2 hours later, take my temperature mutter "that's better" and leave my room. I was also offered a shower to which I said I would love one, a different nurse this time but once again she said "I will be back in a few minutes to help you", half an hour later I got sick of waiting so I showered myself and managed to dress myself, the nurse did not return to shower me! I emailed the hospital and was asked to phone them to discuss my issues, but why bother when there is nothing they can do to change my experience! I would never go back to this hospital again! Very disappointing experience.
